About
Hi and welcome to the official website for The Mandrakes. The band are proud to announce we have just completed the recording of our debut EP which will be a 6 track promotion released soon!!
Mission

The Mandrakes are a 5 piece band based in Montrose, we formed in late 2009. Our mission is to bring something different to the local music scene, bring the female vocals of Victoria to the fore front of the band and showcasing guitar harmonies with a strong well gelled rhythm section. The Mandrakes are proud of the fact that they write, rehearse and play together as a band, with all member contributing towards the style and direction of our music.

After a near 1yr lay off due to unforeseen circumstances we are now back working on our original material which is going very well so far. The band have just recorded our debut E.P. which will be released in late 2011/early 2012.

Members The Mandrakes consist of members Victoria Knowles (vocals), Andy Adie (Guitar) Scott Leport (Bass) Ewan Wilson (Guitar) and Mike Knowles (Drums).Victoria is a trained vocalist (Sopprano) and has performed in many musical theatre projects over the last 20yrs, she had been looking for a new direction in her singing which prompted the birth of The Mandrakes from the get go. Both she and Andy are the main writers in the band, with Mike also penning the odd tune. Andy was involved in gigging and band nights down in the central belt area and has supported even the likes of Manic Street Preachers onstage with previous bands. He is a passionate and dedicated musician with a handy knowledge of song structure and writing aswell as very strong knowledge of modern software and technology. Scott has played the bass since his school days and has been active on the Montrose music scene for the past 5yrs, both he and Mike have performed together for a while now and have formed a very tight understanding during both live and recording situations, Scott is known for his thunderous bass lines and retro playing style. Ewan is a veteran of the guitar and has played since an early age, he has done the rounds not only in Scotland but also enjoyed a succesful period in London where he has shared the stage with the likes of guitar and Thin Lizzy legend Eric Bell. Ewan has done it all from weddings to headline shows..and Ewan is also an active member of Nosmo King along with Mike and Scott. As for Mike, he is known on the local music scene for his blistering rock and blues drumming but Mike actually started his drumming venture over 30yrs ago learning and playing Big Band and musicals. Mike has performed in orchestral pits in venues from montrose to Arbroath to Dunfermline, also a stint in the local pipe band at the early age of 8yrs. Mike is a 3rd generation drummer and enjoys the responsibility of driving The Mandrakes onstage and beyond! The band were already a group of friends who enjoy all things music, Victoria, Ewan, Scott and Mike started jamming mostly acoustic material shortlly before being joined by Andy. the direction of the band was quickly agreed and the original tunes some of which had already been penned by Andy were put together and played to local audiences mixed with some kick ass covers.

The beginning of The Mandrakes suffered a huge setback when Victoria sang with a bout of flu so hard during an ill fated gig she damaged her vocal chords…thus resulting in a long layoff and a period of non gigging for the band. behind the scenes during this time some more tunes were penned and to keep Andy actively playing he enjoyed some cameos with Nosmo King to keep him fresh.
